Chopard Watches

With its orgins in the small Swiss village of Sonvilier, the Chopard brand has maintained a “tradition of excellence” since 1860. To gain recognition, in a highly competitive market, the young and ambitious founder Louis-Ulysse Chopard, focused his attention on creating finely crafted ultra-slim pocket-watches designed for daily use. From the earliest days, Chopard’s watches established an international reputation, built on their precision and reliability. He rapidly gainined discerning clientele from far flung places. In 1937 the company headquarters were relocated to Geneva, the centre of excellence for ‘Haute Horlogerie’. This placed the brand firmly at the heart of the luxury watch making industry.

All great brands must be prepared to move with the times. In 1963, when none of his sons wished to continue the family business, Paul-André Chopard sought a suitable buyer to perpetuate the rich heritage associated with his family name. This desire was met when Karl Scheufele, who had been searching for an exemplary movement to use in his own watches, agreed to take over the company. From this point onwards, under the direction of the new owner, the Chopard name has never been out of the public eye.

Chopard has introduced innovation after innovation in both design aesthetics and technical advancements. In 1974 Chopard expanded its range, this time focusing on jewellery and watches for women. With this focus came the introduction of the ‘Happy Diamonds’ watch in 1976 an imaginative concept in which sparkling diamonds are allowed to “….slide and spin freely between two transparent sapphire crystals.”

Famous for its creativity, application of cutting edge technology as well as indisputably superior craftsmanship, Chopard maintains a pioneering spirit. Continually building on its achievements and moving the product forward to meet the challenges of a dynamic industry this independent, family oriented business stays at the top of the ladder as a creator of high-end watches and superior jewellery designs.
